Essential Oils as Antivirals

Who's sick and tired of the Coronavirus? Yeah, me too. It is amazing that such an infinitesimally small being has brought just about everything to a screeching halt and changed the world so drastically in such a short time. As this drama unfolds and we are learning more each day about COVID-19, it is apparent that we will not be able to return to our pre-coronavirus days for quite a while. Unfortunately, we are going to have to be much more aware of how we do things. So, a little refresher on viruses.

Viruses are parasites. They can't live for long without a host, but they can survive long enough outside the body to infect another person. It's why we need to wash our hands frequently, disinfect counter tops, and refrain from touching our face. This virus is easily transferred from an inanimate object, such as a gas pump, to your hands and then to your nose, eyes, or mouth. No more chewing your nails or rubbing my eyes!

If you haven't already done so, please read the guidelines recommended by the CDC to help keep you and your family safe. This is critical. And while we try to avoid harsh chemicals in our house as much as possible, there is a time and place for these, i.e., a deadly pandemic. The risk of cleaning with bleach (in correct concentrations!) is much less than the risk involved with COVID-19.

That being said, are there many essential oils that can safely be used in conjunction with the CDC recommendations? Our Blue Ridge Botanicals Legend Mist contains Clove, Lemon, Eucalyptus, Rosemary, and Cinnamon Bark, all of which deter the growth of viruses. Many essential oils have antiviral and antimicrobial qualities and there are plenty of legitimate studies proving it to be true. While we don't recommend essential oil therapy as your first line of defense against COVID-19, our Legend Blend and Mist is definitely a good choice to enhance the CDC's recommended measures. Because this virus is new, or "novel", there has not been time to perform studies regarding this particular coronavirus, therefore, we do not recommend it solely against such a virus.

If you have questions or would like further information, please give us a call or send us a note. We would not recommend anything to our customers, that we do not use ourselves. Please stay safe, and let us know if we can assist you in anyway.
